THE BRITISH Marine Finfish Association (BMFA) is holding its annual aquaculture awareness event in Shetland, in early October.

Around 50 delegates are expected at the event that is being held at the NAFC Marine Centre, in Scalloway, on 3 October.

The conference will hear from fish farmer John Goodlad who will give an overview of finfish farming in Shetland, before Dr Lesley McEvoy gives a presentation on Johnson Seafarms and its organic cod farming venture.

Graeme Dear from fish feed manufacturer Skretting will then speak about long term fish feed sustainablilty, followed by a presentation from Karen Galloway on the work of the Sea Fish Industry Authority.

Later in the day, delegates will go on organised tours to Shetland Halibut Company as well as to Johnson Seafarms' cage sites, in Vidlin and its cod processing plant, in Scalloway

The BMFA is the trades organisation for marine finfish aquaculture in the UK, which also represents the companies that presently diversify into halibut and cod farming.
