FOR the second time in two weeks a NorthLink ferry has limped into Aberdeen
harbour after being damaged by heavy seas on its journey from Lerwick.
The Hrossey, with 295 passengers on board, struggled through worse than
forecast weather early yesterday morning (Friday), and was hit by a series of
waves which damaged a door leading to crew accommodation in the fo’c’sle
No one was injured in the incident, which occurred 10 days after Hrossey’s
sister ship Hjaltland experienced similar damage on the same route.
The ferry continued on its journey at reduced speed, arriving in Aberdeen five
and a half hours behind schedule, at 12.30pm.
Repairs are expected to be completed today (Saturday) after which the ship will
leave for scheduled dry-dock inspection in Denmark.
The incident led to the cancellation of last night’s service from Lerwick, which
the company hope will take place some time today to allow Hjaltland to
get back on schedule at 5pm from Aberdeen tomorrow (Sunday).
With severe weather forecast last night last night’s freight trip aboard
NorthLink’s Hascosay was also cancelled, and rescheduled for 6pm on
Sunday, weather permitting.
Details of sailings will be available on NorthLink’s website at
