LERWICK Port Authority has appointed Captain Alexander Simpson as its deputy
harbour master.
Originally from the island of Whalsay, the 27 year old began his seagoing career
with Clyde Marine and sponsoring company, Great White Fleet, in 1999.
After qualifying as deck officer, he quickly rose through the ranks and was also
the first person in Scotland to gain Merchant Vessels Operations VQ level 4
qualifications.
In 2008, he qualified as a master mariner and became a captain on container
vessels trading worldwide, working with DSM who manage vessels for Danish firms,
NYK Lauritsen Cool and Maersk
