This year’s annual fisheries exhibition FISHING 2009 is taking place between 14
and 16 May in Glasgow, at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre.
Europe’s leading fishing event, in its 23rd year, will include a boat display
area and live cooking demonstrations. There will also be daily competitions,
where crewmen will have the chance to take part in events such as net-mending
and fish-filleting.
There will be the usual opportunities for skippers and boat owners to learn
about and source new products for their vessels, and to interact with colleagues
from the industry, and a number of seminar sessions will also take place over
the three days.
Exhibitors include Swan-Net Gundry, AST, the installation and airtime providers
for the RNLI’s MOB devices, and Albus Solutions from Derry, who have developed
an ingenious method of tailing prawns. Other new exhibitors contracted include
Clyde Marine Propellers of Scotland and DNG Ireland.
Lerwick Port Authority, Baker Tilly, Northwards Ltd and SIC Ports and Harbours
will be attending the event from Shetland.
Michelle Park, the event’s marketing manager, said “This show will be the most
hands-on and interactive to date. New for 2009 is a boat display area, with four
vessels already confirmed. Anderson Marine of Aberdeen, Scotland, will be
bringing two new 33ft. and 38ft. boats, while a catamaran from Colne Catz – a
sister firm of well known GRP catamaran builder Gemini Workboats – will also be
on display. Macduff firm Seaway Marine have also confirmed the presence of their
Buccaneer 21 vessel at this year’s show.
“In addition, the Seafood Bar will for the first time feature live cooking
demonstrations, with food handed out for tasting to visitors and exhibitors.”
The first 500 registrants at FISHING 2009 will receive a free oil sample kit,
which could improve the performance of their vessel. Registration can be done
