More local food on ferries

FERRY operators NorthLink have promised to increase the amount of local food on their on board menus, which currently source 36 per cent of their ingredients in Shetland, Orkney, Caithness and Grampian.

More than 40 producers attended a buyers’ briefing on board one NorthLink ferry recently, resulting in new agreements with suppliers of fresh fish, mussels, biscuits, bakery products, premium yoghurts, bottled waters, coffee and healthy soft drinks.
Local suppliers now include:

Shetland: Shetland Livestock Marketing (lamb); Simpson and Ward (fish); Blueshell Mussels (mussels); Shetland Fudge (confectionery); Walls Bakery (bakery produce); Valhalla Brewery (beers);

Orkney: Orkney Hamper Company (confectionery and, cheese); E R Craigie (beef); Williamsons (beef and lamb); Orkney Wine Company (fruit wines); Highland Park Distillery (whisky); Scapa Distillery (whisky ); Orkney Breweries (beers).

Caithness – Blackstairs Fish (fish); Caithness Biscuits (biscuits).

Grampian - Devenick Dairy (yoghurts and cheeses); Thain’s Bakery (bakery produce).
