VISITORS
to the national nature reserve on the Shetland island of Noss will have easier
access to the world famous bird sanctuary now a new jetty has been built.
The jetty was constructed over the winter from concrete and will mean boats can
operate better in a wider range of weather conditions.
Scottish Natural Heritage area officer Simon Smith said: “The ferry improvements
mean that visitors to the island have an easier means of getting onto Noss and
experiencing one of Britain's most famous wildlife spectacles.”
The Noss ferry started running again on Tuesday from 10am to 5pm, except Mondays
and Thursdays, and will continue until 31 August.
Noss is home to around 45,000 guillemots, 7,000 pairs of gannets and several
thousand fulmars, kittiwakes and puffins.
