SHETLAND Islands Council has appointed Fiona Dally to coordinate the local events as part of the international Tall Ships’ Races 2011.

Ms Dally will move within the Shetland Development Trust (SDT) from press officer to her new role to plan for the return visit of the tall ships.

Ms Dally brings considerable event management experience from her time as operations manager assisting in delivering the NatWest Island Games, held in Shetland in 2005.

She will work with the local Tall Ships’ Races committee to set up the event in Lerwick in three years time and will also be working with the wider Sail Training International Ports Committee responsible for organising the whole event in 2011.

Mr Neil Grant of SDT said her new post was pivotal for the planning of the Tall Ships’ Races event in 2011.

The Tall Ships’ Races 2011 will visit the ports of Waterford, Greenock, Lerwick and Stavanger.
