A BARGE fitted with a massive crane removed an access tower
from jetty one at BP’s Sullom Voe oil terminal on Saturday as part of ongoing
maintenance work.
The tower was transported to Sella Ness, where it is being taken ashore and
scrapped. A new one is waiting to be put in place as soon as high winds have
calmed down.
Shetland Islands Council’s ports manager Jim Dickson said the access tower had
reached the end of its working life and needed to be replaced. The tower on
jetty three will be replaced in June for the same reason.
