NORTHLINK Ferries are re-launching their “friends and family” scheme which
offers a 30 per cent discount on return fares to Shetland and Orkney for
households living outwith the isles.
The offer will run initially from 15 May to 30 June, allowing island residents
registered with NorthLink to nominate six households to be given cheap travel to
the north isles.
The scheme will be run solely on the internet. The shipping company will contact
every registered islander for whom they have an email address, and anyone else
can provide an email address using an online form on their website

NorthLink’s commercial director Cynthia Spencer said the family and friends
discount scheme was a great success when it first started in 2002 and said
passengers might have to wait for everyone’s application to be processed.
“We expect a similar degree of uptake this time and would ask customers to be
patient while we process what we expect will be a large number of applications,”
Ms Spencer said.
