THE Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group has appointed Stephen Cameron as its new managing director.

Mr Cameron joins SSMG from seafood processor Macrae Edinburgh Ltd, where he was operations director and deputy managing director.

SSMG is an umbrella organisation representing 25 mussel and oyster producers in the west coast and northern isles of Scotland, which supplies all major supermarkets with locally farmed shellfish.

Based at the organisation's processing plant in Bellshill, in Lanarkshire, Mr Cameron said: "The shellfish sector has excellent potential for growth, given the quality of the products and their well-publicised health benefits.

"One of my first priorities will be to examine ways of developing the business through efficiency improvements and expanding our customer and product base."
