FISHERMAN Victor Robertson has become the first person in Shetland to get his
under 16.5 metre skipper’s ticket by training at Scalloway’s NAFC Marine Centre.
Mr Robertson, from Vidlin, is a mate on the Prolific LK986 and successfully
completed courses in bridge and engine room watch keeping, stability awareness
and safety and a GMDSS SRC certificate.
He had already done some of the training prior to attending the college and the
Seafish Industry Authority and Department for Transport helped fund the rest of
his study.
Training co-ordinator Caroline Hepburn said: “In order to qualify for the
funding, fishermen must hold the four mandatory safety certificates and have at
least 12 months fishing experience.
“I would urge fishermen to take up this opportunity and contact me for further
information.”
Fishermen interested in taking up the offer can contact Ms Hepburn on 01595
