A SPONSORED golf tournament in Shetland raised almost £4,500 for the local
Fishermen's Mission, at the weekend.
Ninety three golfers turned out at the Whalsay Golf Course for the annual
Mission Cup, which is now the biggest annual event in the Shetland golfing
calendar.
The competition, sponsored by fish processors Shetland Catch, was won by team
one of the pelagic trawler Serene, followed by the team from the white fish boat
Venturous. Serene's team two came in third.
Mission superintendent Peter Dade said he was overwhelmed by the amount of money
raised towards his work.
He added that these events enabled the mission to carry out the vital welfare
and pastoral work in the islands. Earlier this year the Shetland Mission
celebrated its centenary in the isles.
"We'd also like to thank all those who provided raffle prizes and gave us
donations, and of course all the firms and boats that took part," he said.
