A NEW booklet charting a hundred years of the Fishermen's Mission in Shetland
will be launched on Wednesday.
Information has been gathered from Mission archives and other sources dating as
far back as 1907.
The story, edited by writer and wildlife guide Jonathan Wills, follows the early
years with many dramatic and memorable incidents, leading up to the recent
changes in the fishing industry as well as the Mission's continued work helping
those involved in it.
Chief executive of the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen, Captain Dan
Conley, said: "This booklet illustrates the perilous work of the fishermen and
the dangers they face to bring fish to our table."
The launch of the book takes place on 21 November 2007 at 7pm in the committee
room, Stewart Building, Lerwick. Dr Wills will be present to sign copies.
