SHETLAND'S Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen yesterday (Tuesday) announced it had raised more than £1,800 at its annual Fish Fiesta seafood supper.

The event, held last Friday at the NAFC Marine Centre's 'Da Haaf Restaurant', in Scalloway, also kicked off the mission's 100th anniversary celebrations for 2007.

An unusual raffle was announced after the meal with the first prize being a tune written by Margaret Scollay, a pianist and fiddle teacher from the Shetland island of Yell.

The winner was Barbara Fraser, from Gulberwick, who called the tune 'Ollie' after her dog. Ms Fraser also received a certificate with compliments from the mission

The musical piece was performed on the night for the first time by 14 year old fiddle player Maggie Adamson, who was accompanied by her tutor Alan Gifford on keyboards.

Second prize in the raffle was a teddy bear donated by the Shetland Teddy Bear Company. The toy had the apt limited edition number of 100.

Afterwards, the audience watched a film entitled "For those in peril" which featured footage from the 1960s showing the fishing industry and the mission in Shetland at that time.
