Kenny Thompson with a seizable ling on Friday - All photos: Billy FoxA STRONG field of more than 40 anglers competed in this year's Viking Angling Festival, which took place between Thursday and Saturday.

Overall winner of the three day event, which fished out of Scalloway this year, was Kenny Thompson, from Argyll.

His wife Nikki won the overall trophy for the ladies. Scott Sandison won the junior section.

A total of 43 competitors fished from 14 boats with some going out as far as Foula. Conditions were difficult at times with a high swell on Friday (see photo section of Victor Gray's Sceptre), and a rotten day on Saturday.

Thursday's winner was John Tulloch with a catch of 203 pounds, mainly of pollock, with Nikki Thompson coming second (198 pounds) and Kenny Thompson third (168 pounds).

Friday saw the anglers just going for ling and tusk. Winner was Clive Scott with 83 pounds, followed by John Bremner (79 pounds) and Kenny Laurenson (68 pounds).

On Saturday, Clive Scott again had the largest basket with 79 pounds, followed by Jimmy Smith (69 pounds) and John Scott (66 pounds).
